Muscadine Florida U-Pick DeLeon Springs

Muscadine Grapes

DeLeon Springs U-Pick

I have to share the weekend adventure we had at a U-pick Muscadine Vineyard in DeLeon Springs, Florida. It was like a little slice of California in the heart of Central Florida (minus the wine - add a honey muscadine popsicle). They have gallon buckets and you get to roam the different vines of green and purple grapes. If you don’t know what muscadines taste like they have a thicker skin like a plum that is slightly tart with a very sweet juice, they also have seeds. The only way I can describe the flavor is they taste like the South. You just have to give them a try and what better way than right off the vine.

A few hints for the best trip:

  • Go early. Let’s get real that Florida heat in mid-summer is no joke. Add a touch of humidity and you got yourself a scorcher.

  • Wear a hat. Grapes need full sun, it is hot and sunny.

  • Bring cash. They do not accept cards!

  • Popsicles. Plan on trying one their sweet, honey, muscadine juice popsicles!

  • Jams. Plan on buying some delicious muscadine jam!

  • Seeds. Muscadine Grapes do have seeds.

You can find their hours and when the season is open here.
